Ever since Midas Hotel has opened, we wanted to check the place out and our dining at Yanagi Japanese Restaurant is the perfect excuse.
Yanagi Japanese Restaurant is located on the second floor so we got to pass by and appreciate the modern interiors of
Midas Hotel just as we intended.
Midas Hotel has an ambiance similar to the modern buildings in
Beijng. But,
Yanagi Japanese Restaurant had a traditional Japanese influence with its wooden fixtures and lantern-like lighting.
The place is a spacious but it only holds a few tables. It has a sushi bar and a teppanyaki bar.
I watched as the Chef prepared
Teppanyaki Fried Rice which is my favorite. Too bad it wasn't included in the buffet though.
Food
We all availed of the
buffet which turned out to be cheaper than expected. We were told that the listed price is 999 php, the walk-in rate is only 680 php which is reasonable given the limited selections.
Buffet
I started with the buffet selections were set out fronting the sushi bar. Aside from the sushi selections, there were only three options.
I seem to have forgotten what this was called but its egg-based similar to the
chawanmushi except that this is cold. The taste is mild but quite pleasurable to eat.
There is also a jellyfish similar to those served in a
Chinese restaurant for appetizer but their version is drenched in vinegar which I couldn't bear eating too much of.

There is also a sushi and maki section with
Salmon Sushi,
California Maki and
Hamachi Sushi. These were not as tasty but at least they used Japanese rice. But, I can't help but wish they offered the salmon as
sashimi instead.

| ♥ Sukiyaki |
Perhaps the best part of the buffet that makes it worth it is the Sukiyaki. They made offered a beautiful USDA Choice Beef Sirloin sliced perfectly thin. The ingredients were fresh too especially the shitake mushrooms. You could request it to be cooked with your specifications and the Chef will cook it for you and have it delivered to your table. Yes, I had mine with extra mushrooms. =D
The Sukiyaki is delicious! The thin beef meat is tender and tasty. The sweetness is just right too. Although it had noodles in it, I also ate it with their quality Japanese rice.

| ♥ Assorted Tempura |
Their tempura is comes straight from the kitchen so its hot upon serving. The batter is pretty good and the portions is adequate. The Assorted Tempura plate is served with two tempura shrimps and one sweet potato. Once you're done you can ask for succeeding rounds as much as you want. I wanted to eat as much but the Sukiyaki was quite heavy.
Aside from the Assorted Tempura, you can also order unlimited Miso Soup, Japanese Rice, Coffee and Tea.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Yanagi Japanese Restaurant offers an affordable Japanese hotel buffet but the selections are quite limited. The food quality is pretty good expect for the sushi and maki selections. Although it is a hotel restaurant, I still do not feel that the buffet price is justifiable. Perhaps, we'll come back for the ala carte selections next time. The service is good but not up to hotel standard either in terms of attentiveness and speed.
