We Tsinoy Foodies love Ramen! So when a new ramen place called Kokoro Ramenya opens in our neighborhood, we just had to check it out.
Kokoro Ramenya is located on the second floor of the Avenue of Arts Building along Roxas Boulevard.
Kokoro Ramenya has a modern minmalist zen ambiance with its elegant cushioned seats, wooden table and Japanese lanterns and wood-patterned walls. The place is spacious but the the seating capacity is quite limited. On a usual weekday especially on Sundays, the restaurant is filled with diners.
Food
Kokoro Ramenya has an extensive menu. We've dined there more than once and yet, we're still far from trying out all their offerings. =D
Sushi
Chirashi Sushi (285 php) |
Nigiri Sushi
Unagi Nigiri Sushi (245 php) |
Sashimi
Spicy Tuna Sashimi (255 php) |
The Spicy Tuna Sashimi has the right zing to whet your appetite. If it the spiciness is not enough for you, you can always bite on the chili bits. There are lots of those there. =p
Salad
Wakame Salad (195 php) |
The Wakame Salad is a refreshing salad with lettuces, wakame (seaweed) topped with Japanese Mayo, tomatoes, cucumbers and crabsticks. It is delicious with a dash of their special dressing.
Ramen
♥ Hakata Classic (325 php) |
The Hakata Classic is has a rich and creamy broth complemented by perfect runny Japanese-style eggs, chewy noodles, bamboo shoots, vegetables and chashu (pork). We loved it! This is a must-try!
Gekikara Ramen (275 php) |
The Gekikara Ramen means five spice ramen. I've always considered myself to have a high tolerance in terms of spiciness because I enjoy eating spicy dishes. But, for the first time in my life, I bow down and surrender to the spiciness of this ramen. Don't let the looks fool you. Although this is not red in color, it is really as spicy as warned by the indicators on the menu.
Curry Ramen (285 php) |
The Curry Ramen is a curry thick noodle soup with chicken and vegetables. It has a hint of herbs and spices that adds flavor to the usual curry taste. It was a slurping sensation for me.
Other Noodles
♥ Kokoro Tsukemen (285 php) |
I rarely order cold noodles but the Kokoro Tsukemen has certainly convinced me to try more of it. With their special kokoro dipping suace, this turned out to be a pleasurable dish.
♥ Nabeyaki Udon (345 php) |
I love Nabeyaki Udon so I always order one when available. Kokoro Rameya's version is one of the best I've tried. Not only do they serve it in real hot pot ("Nabe" in Japanese) but it is also filled with a variety of toppings. It had shitake mushrooms, Ebi (shrimp) tempura, Kani (crabstick) tempura, chicken cubes and more. This alone is a fulfilling dish to order.
Ala Carte
♥ Gyoza (155 php) |
The Gyoza is the best kind you can get. The shell had the right of pan-fried crisp while maintaining its silky softness. And, it gets better once you bite into its juicy minced meat within.
Salmon Teriyaki (295 php) |
The Salmon Teriyaki is served sizzling hot with fragrant smoky sesame infused fragrance. The teriyaki sauce had a right blend. It was not too sweet. The salmon was perfectly cooked too. It was tender and succulent. The buttered vegetables were a great complement especially the crunchy beansprouts.
♥ Beef Teppanyaki (445 php) |
The Beef Teppanyaki is a hot-plateful of beef cubes cooked teppanyaki-style with lots of garlic bits. The beef is of quality so it delivered a savory flavor complemented by the butter and garlic. We loved this!
Mixed Teppanyaki (345 php) |
Beverages
Kokoro Iced Tea (50 php) and ♥Matcha Milk Tea (85 php) |
Although the Kokoro Iced Tea carries the name of the restaurant, it tasted no different from other instant ones. So, better order something else if you want to try something special. The Matcha Milk Tea had some froth and was thick and creamy like a milk shake. it was good but it made me wonder what their Matcha Milk Shake is like. =D
Desserts
Japanese Coffee Jelly and Ice Cream (85 php) |
The Japanese Coffee Jelly and Ice Cream is a sweet-blend of coffee jelly topped with vanilla ice cream drizzled with coffee powder. It is a nice meal-ender but nothing extraordinary.
♥Black Sesame Ice Cream (85 php) |
The Black Sesame Ice Cream is actually vanilla ice cream with thick black sesame paste. Although this was not what I expected it to be, it was delicious! I'll probably order this again. =D
Uji Kintoki (95 php) |
The Uji Kintoki is usually shaved ice with red beans and green tea flavoring. This version made use of green tea ice cream which didn't work for me because upon mixing them all together it was too bland.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Kokoro Ramenya is a great place for ramen. They have a lot to offer which makes you want to come back for more. The interior is also nice and coy that its perfect for any occasion or casual meals.
